
The Amazon is the largest nature reserve and world wide. It has been classified at least 25,000 species of plants and is believed to need to know so many. In the Peruvian jungle there are approximately 4,000 species of butterflies and the large river basin is home to 2,000 different species of fish than those found in the Atlantic Ocean. Iquitos opportunity to visit the largest reserve in Peru, the second of the Amazon and the fourth in South America, Pacaya-Samiria. Its area exceeds 2 million hectares, shared territory between the provinces of Loreto, Requena, Ucayali and Amazonas. Its climate is hot and humid, and the vegetation is one of the most species-rich tropical forest. The flora is varied and exuberant, having so far identified about 850 species, with a high incidence of palm trees and 22 species of orchids. Its forests are home to abundant wildlife with 130 species of mammals, 330 birds, 150 reptiles and amphibians and 250 fish. But Iquitos has another surprise his latest national reserve, Allpahuayo - Mishana. It was created in January 2004, in order to protect one of the largest white sand forests or "linkages" of the Peruvian Amazon, an ecosystem rich in flora and fauna, with many species that have not yet been identified by the science. Researchers have reported the existence of 145 species of mammals, 476 birds, 120 reptiles, 83 amphibians, 155 fish, 522 butterfly, in addition to 1,780 plant species.
