In the Arequipa Historical Centreyou can admire a wholly 'arequipeño' architecturural style. Formed towards the end of the 17th century, it's a blend of Italian baroque, Spanish silver-plating and Andean creativity.
The ancestral mansions and the ancient churches and convents are built out of 'sillar', a pearl-white building material which, when the sun's light hits it, produces a glimmer, a magnificent glow, therefore causing people to affectionately call Arequipa "La Ciudad Blanca of Peru" ("The White City").
On the Arequipa outskirts you'll find fascinating villages with stepped terraces dating from pre-Inca times that are still used today by farmers from the districts of Chilina, Socabaya, Paucarpata, Characato and Sabandia.
Two of the world's deepest canyons are found in the department of Arequipa: Cotahuasi, in the province of La Union, and Colca, in the province of Cailloma. The spectacular Valley of the Volcanoes in Andagua, the beaches of Mollendo and Camana and Puerto Inca beach in Caraveli, are all fascinating places which must also be visited.

Day 1:- Arequipa in - City Tour

Day 1:- Arequipa in - City TourReception and transfer to the hotel. After a little time to rest, we will initiate the tour visiting the White city of Arequipa. We will visit the Main Square, which presents a beautiful bronze fountain of three plates crowned with the figure of a soldier of XVI century. Here we will be able to appreciate The Church of the Company of Jesus Christ. Next we will visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina who was a center of absolute retreat, which stayed closed to the public by centuries, today is harmoniously recovered and opened. It allows us to appreciate how the city of Arequipa was in the XVII century. We will see its streets, gardens, walls of sillar, etc. Immediately we will be transferred to the beautiful and green countryside of the Yanahuara Viewpoint, where we will have a privileged view of the city and Volcanoes like the Misti, Pichupichu and Chachani. Return to the Hotel. Overnight. |
Day 2:- Excursion to the CountrysideBreakfast. We start the day taking a trip to the town of Cayma, where we will visit its church and small square. Later on we will visit the Sachaca Founder's Mansion Viewpoint. Here we will have a wonderful view of the city of Sachaca, its countryside and its three volcanoes, then we will continue knowing the Founder’s Mansion, which is a big old house that dates from the century XVI. Next we will continue in our way to the Mill of Sabandía, located in the countryside. It is a colorful district, whose primary activities are the cattle ranch and agriculture. There we will be able to appreciate a hydraulic mill of the year 1621. Finally we will move to the district of Paucarpata, where we will know its main square and church. There we will appreciate a beautiful assembly of Incas and Pre-Incas platforms. Overnight. |
Day 3:- Arequipa / Exit Breakfast. At an appropriate time, transfer to the station/airport to return to the city of origin. |
